Dr Michael Gamlen
Inventor of the Gamlen Tablet Press
The world’s first benchtop force-controlled tablet press

I started out over 30 years ago after been awarded a first class honours degree in pharmacy, specialising in pharmaceutical engineering, I then studied for my PhD at Nottingham University.

Since then I’ve held a number of significant posts including head of tablet development at the The Wellcome Foundation for 15 years, and as a consultant to Vanguard Medica Limited.

I specialise in managing product development, formulation, tablet and process development studies. I also ran a professional training company for several years.

After many years of research and testing, I created the worlds’ first computer controlled desktop tablet press and founded Gamlen Tableting Limited.

The Gamlen Tablet Press gives you complete control of the compaction process using only small amounts of material. It generates precise measurement of tabletability, compressibility and compactibility by capturing tablet compression and ejection force measurement.

The Gamlen Tablet Press can be operated in a glove box under precise humidity and temperature control. It’s ideal for materials testing and tablet research, development and small scale manufacture.
